History: Twenty years ago my Dad was on TV standing in a picket line, a union teacher on strike.  He made the local news because his line of teachers stood in front of “temporary workers” hired by the district during the strike.  Fisticuffs ensued. Cameras rolled. Dad, who stood 6' 4” and around 240 pounds, was on the ground in the melee.  At the time, I did not comprehend I was seeing politics in action and how that action would shape my future.

Present: 2008 was a great year.  We elected a president who inspires new hope for our future. We made great strides in California congressional races, laying the ground work for an even better future.  Sacramento County helped turn two Assembly districts from red to blue in AD-10 and AD-15. 

I am a member of the Democratic Party of Sacramento County (DPSC), and Vice-chair of the Campaign Services committee.  In 2008, DPSC produced the largest outreach program in memorable history.  The Campaign Services committee reached out to over 100,000 voters in Sacramento County .  We worked hard on finding Democrats to run for every local level office. 

I ran the general election endorsement process for DPSC.  I am a member of Stonewall and Wellstone, Sacramento , and a founding member of the local Green Democrats.  I am also a Young Democrat, excited by increased participation of my peers through the work of the Sacramento County Young Democrats. I am a union member.  I volunteered on campaigns from President, to Assembly, City Council, School Board, and SMUD Board. 

Future: The next two years hold tremendous promise for our party and priorities.  We need to continue voter registration efforts.  We need more local level candidates state-wide to build our elected office base, producing better and stronger future candidates for higher office.  We must focus on making single-payer healthcare available to everyone, as well as bring good, progressive public policy to a level of prominence at all levels.
