I am running for re-election in the 42nd AD on the Progressive Slate.  Since being "forced" into politics in 2003 by George W. Bush's destruction of our constitution I have worked diligently to bring the progressive voice into our state party.  I co-founded the Progressive Caucus of the CA Democratic Party, served two terms as a 42nd AD Delegate and was appointed by CDP Chair Art Torres to the Legislative Action and Equal Opportunity Committee.  I authored the state party's resolution on Impeachment and chaired the Progressive Caucus' Impeachment and Out of Iraq forums.

If re-elected, I would like to devote my next term to working on two specific issues: 1. Advocating for marriage equality and the repeal of Prop 8, and, 2. Education reform.  Specifically, I would work to repel No Child Left Learning, advocate for full education funding- CA is 47th in the nation on per pupil spending and demand the hard line separation of church and state in sexuality and science education.

Research shows that the more educated individuals are the more tolerate and, yes, liberal, they become.  So both my goals really go hand in hand.

LOVE NOT H8.  AND DON'T FORGET TO EDUCATE.

When I'm not politicing, I spend my days opening the minds of my students as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences at Woodbury University in Burbank. I live in Studio City with my two teenage sons.

Sincerely,
Dr. Joye Swan
