DEANA IGELSRUD for 47th AD Delegate & Executive Board

Deana Igelsrud is a dedicated grassroots volunteer and activist who has been working for change both inside and outside of the Democratic Party.

In 2004, she served as the Hollywood Regional Director of SoCal Grassroots for Kerry-Edwards where she campaigned, mobilized volunteers, worked to Get Out the Vote and went on to become a delegate to the California Democratic Party (CDP) from the 47th AD. During the 2005 Special Election, as a volunteer, she ran the Silver Lake campaign office of the Alliance for a Better California.  In 2007, she was elected to serve on the Executive Board of the CDP, was appointed to its Legislative Action Committee and was awarded "Democrat of the Year" for our local Democratic Party region - Region 14.  During that year, she served as a co-chair and founding member of LA4Edwards, representing the John Edwards presidential campaign here in Los Angeles; and she co-authored the state party's "long overdue" policy for vetting legislation.  In 2008, she not only pushed to get the policy passed, she also worked to get the state party to take positions, for the first time in more than a decade, on important pieces of state and national legislation; including support for H.R. 676 (The United States National Health Insurance Act) which would provide affordable national health insurance for all Americans.  Most recently, she co-authored and passed a resolution expressing support for increased congressional oversight of the $700 Billion "Bank Bailout."

In addition to these, she has helped organize several events in the community including: the protest against Arnold at Santa Monica City College that received national attention; “in-depth” trainings on ballot initiatives; and last fall she helped to organize and run the 47th Assembly District Democratic Club Headquarters in Culver City for the 2008 election.

Her political drive comes from a desire to help people realize their own civic participation and to open up the process.  "Government is here to make peoples lives better, and I want to make sure that everyone who wants it, has a voice in the process and is able to contribute."

Deana is the endorsed candidate for Executive Board on The Progressive Slate in the 47th Assembly District race.
