It became quite apparent to me as a young child that of the two major parties in the US, it was the Democratic Party that had the interests of common people higher in it's priorities rather than the Republican Party. Yes it did help that my family is mostly comprised of Democrats, but I also took an early interest in current events and was able to see through the lies and distortions spewed by those on the right. But as I grew older, I came to realize that not all Democrats are who they claim to be and were willing to compromise their principles just as quick as a Republican would in return for personal gain for themselves and their contributors. This is just one of the many reasons that since I became of voting age in 2000, I have been an advocate for Progressive candidates and causes. After the last eight years and my invaluable experiences working for the Durston for Congress campaign my belief in our candidates and causes have been fortified. We all know what has to be done and it's just a matter of us getting more Progressives active in the Democratic Party to take our party and country back.
