Susan Blanchard

After the 2000 Election, I decided it wasn’t enough to just vote and decided I wanted to become more involved in the political process.  I started by joining the West L.A. and Westwood-Westside Democratic Clubs and the 47th AD Committee.

After the 2004 Election, with fellow supporters of General Wesley Clark, I became a founding member of the 4 Star Democratic Club, serving as its Treasurer.  We have hosted events with General Clark, Lawrence Korb, Amy Ziegert and others discussing issues of National Security from a Democratic Perspective.  In 2006 we co-hosted a Statewide Candidates Forum and in 2007 we co-hosted a Forum on Veterans Issues.  During the past election cycle we co-hosted fundraisers for Charlie Brown and Ethan Berkowitz.  For the past year I have served as 4 Stars representative to DPSFV and was honored by 4 Star to be its recipient of DPSFV 2008 Truman Award for Outstanding Volunteer of the Year.

I have served on Councilman Bill Rosendahl’s Empowerment Councils’ Committee for Tenant’s Rights and Affordable Housing.  This past year I became a founding member of the new 47th Assembly District Democratic Club and serve on its E-Board as Member at Large.

I have served as a delegate to the CDP from the 47th Assembly District for the past two years and am running for re-election because this year we will be electing new State Officers and want to help elect Officers that will:

1)      Support Grassroots Activists and encourage their involvement in the Party,

2)      Support a 58 County Strategy similar to Howard Dean’s 50 State Strategy,

3)      Encourage Democrats to compete in every race and,

4)      Support Campaign Finance Reform that will make it easier for first time candidates to run for Office.

It is important to me that the California Democratic Party pursues solutions to:

1)      Healthcare Reform,

2)      Budget Reform,

3)      Ballot Imitative Reform,

4)      Affordable Housing and Poverty Issues and,

5)      Protection from Development of the V.A. Land in W.L.A.

Additionally, I have served as Poll Watcher and Poll Worker
